Im postapokalyptischen Vereinigten Korea ist der Himmel rot und das Meer voller Giftstoffe. Eine riesige Mauer trennt die Bevölkerung des Vereinigten Koreas von den Omegas, Menschen mit flossenähnlichen Mutationen, die das Meer von Müll und Gift reinigen müssen. Su-jin (KIM Pu-reum) ist eine neue Einsatzkraft in der Behörde, die entflohene Omegas jagt. Mia (YEON Ye-ji) arbeitet in einem schillernden Fischgeschäft und verkauft nostalgische Erinnerungen an das Meer, als es noch sauber war. Die beiden einsamen Seelen treffen in der industriellen Landschaft des Vereinigten Koreas aufeinander und beginnen langsam, die staatlichen Ideologien zu hinterfragen.
Der erste Film von PARK Sye-young, The Fifth Thoracic Vertebrae (2022), war ein Underground Hit auf dem 12th Korean Film Festival Frankfurt. Mit The Fin erschafft er eine einzigartige post-apokalyptische Welt, die gleichzeitig furchteinflößend und verträumt wirkt.

In post-apocalyptic United Korea, the sky is red and the sea is full of toxins. A giant wall separates the population of United Korea from the Omegas, people with fin-like mutations who must clean the sea of garbage and poison. Su-jin (KIM Pu-reum) is a new operative in an agency that hunts escaped Omegas. Mia (YEON Ye-ji) works in a colorful fish shop, selling her customers nostalgic memories of the sea when it was still clean. The lives of these two lonely souls intersect in the industrial landscape of United Korea and they slowly begin to question the ideologies of their state.
PARK Sye-young’s first film, The Fifth Thoracic Vertebrae (2022), was an underground hit at the 12th Korean Film Festival Frankfurt. With The Fin, he has created a unique post-apocalyptic world that is both terrifying and dreamlike.
