Anna (Tang Wei), wegen Mordes an ihrem brutalen Ehemann zu Gefängnis verurteilt, erhält kurzzeitigen Hafturlaub, um an der Beerdigung ihrer Mutter in Seattle teilzunehmen. Auf dem Weg dorthin begegnet sie dem koreanischen Einwanderer Hoon (Hyun-bin), der sich als Callboy durchs Leben schlägt. Doch nicht nur Annas Rückkehr ins Gefängnis steht bevor – Hoons Vergangenheit lenkt ihre gemeinsame Zukunft unerwartet in tragische Bahnen.
Late Autumn, Romanverfilmung und Remake in einem, zeichnet zwei grundverschiedene Charaktere, vereint in ihrer Orientierungslosigkeit. Late Autumn ist großes Gefühlskino, das jenseits von Sentimentalität ergreift und zu Tränen rührt.

Anna (Tang Wei), sentenced to prison for the murder of her brutal husband, is granted a brief furlough to attend her mother’s funeral in Seattle. On the way there, she meets Korean immigrant Hoon (Hyun-bin), who is making a living as a call boy. Both are outsiders – Anna as an outcast of her Chinese extended family, Hoon as a runaway from a jealous husband. These two lonely souls suddenly find what they no longer dared to seek: a great love. But it’s not just Anna’s return to prison that looms – Hoon’s past unexpectedly steers their future together in tragic directions.
Late Autumn is a novel adaptation and remake in one and draws two fundamentally different characters, united in their disorientation. Late Autumn is great emotional cinema that moves beyond sentimentality and moves to tears.
