Orte, Filme, Erinnerungen – dieser Found-Footage Dokumentarfilm verfolgt die Ideologie des Antikommunismus in Südkorea, von ihren Wurzeln im Koreakrieg, zu ihrer Verfestigung unter Präsident PARK Chung-hee in den 1960er und 70er Jahren, bis in unsere heutige Zeit. Regisseur KIM Moo-young fügt Filmmaterial aus Newsreels, Bildungsfilmen, Propaganda und Kinofilmen zusammen und führt uns auch durch die Überbleibsel antikommunistischer Architektur. The Sense of Violence zeigt eindrucksvoll, wie Ängste und Sorgen von Menschen Gewalt hervorrufen können und welche Rolle die Medien in der Verbreitung von Ideologien spielen.
KIM Moo-youngs Inspiration für den Stil von The Sense of Violence waren die Filme des deutschen Essay Filmemachers Harun Farocki. Die Filmausschnitte, die KIM verwendet, kommen aus den Archiven von Korea TV (KTV).

Places, films, memories – this found-footage documentary traces the ideology of anti-communism in South Korea, from its roots during the Korean War, to its consolidation under President PARK Chung-hee in the 1960s and 70s, to the present day. Director KIM Moo-young assembles footage from newsreels, educational films, propaganda and feature films, and also guides us through the remnants of anti-communist architecture. The Sense of Violence powerfully shows how people’s fears and concerns can breed violence and what role the media plays in the spreading of ideologies.
KIM Moo-young’s inspiration for the style of The Sense of Violence were the films of the German essay filmmaker Harun Farocki. The film clips KIM uses come from the archives of Korea TV (KTV).
