4th Korean Film Festival Frankfurt
Auch wenn „4“ in Korea als eine unheilbringende Zahl betrachtet wird – auf die 4. Ausgabe von „The Korean Film Festival“ traf dies keinesfalls zu. Vom 21.10. – 25.10. 2015 erwartete ein volles Programm rund um den koreanischen Film und Kultur die Besucher. Alles fand, wie im Jahr zuvor schon, im Cinestar Metropolis statt.
Das Festival wurde am Mittwochabend mit dem erfolgreichsten koreanischen Film 2015 „Assassination“ in Anwesenheit des Regisseurs Choi Dong-hoon, der Produzentin Ahn Soo-hyun und des Schauspielers Lee Jung-jae eröffnet. Nach gelungener Vorstellung standen Regisseur, Produzentin und Schauspieler noch für eine kleine Fragerunde zur Verfügung. Wer an diesem besonderen Abend keine Eintrittskarte mehr ergattern konnte, hatte am Sonntag noch einmal die Gelegenheit dazu, „Assassination“ auf der Kinoleinwand zu sehen.
An den darauffolgenden Tagen wurden am Tag bis zu 6 Filme unterschiedlichster Genre gezeigt. Von Dramen über Komödien bis hin zu Thriller war alles zu finden, sodass es für jeden Besucher den passenden Film gab. Action- und Krimifans kamen bei „A Hard Day“ voll und ganz auf ihre Kosten. Mit der Starbesetzung Kim Woo-bin, Lee Junho und Kang Ha-neul lockte die Teenie-Komödie „Twenty“ vor allem junges, an K-Pop und K-Drama interessiertes Publikum in den bis auf den letzten Platz besetzten Kinosaal. Bei den jüngeren Gästen sorgte der Animationsfilm „Operation Nussknacker“ für gute Unterhaltung. Ein Film der besonderen Art ist „My Love, Don’t Cross That River“ von Regisseur Jin Mo-young, der ebenfalls bei der Vorstellung anwesend war und viele Fragen im Anschluss daran ausführlich beantwortete. Seine wunderbare Dokumentation der witzigen, aber auch emotionalen Liebesgeschichte eines alten Ehepaars rührte die Zuschauer zu Tränen.
Wie schon im Jahr zuvor wurden neben dem Filmprogramm noch weitere Attraktionen angeboten. Dabei konnten Groß und Klein Hanbok, die traditionelle koreanische Kleidung, anprobieren und Fotos machen, ihren Namen auf Koreanisch im Kalligrafie-Stil schreiben lassen sowie Keramik selbst bemalen und köstlichen Tee genießen. Darüber hinaus gab es die Möglichkeit an einem Stand, welcher der bekannten koreanischen Variety-Show Running Man nachempfunden war, in kleinen Spielen sein Geschick unter Beweis zu stellen. Neben Spiel und Spaß konnten auch koreanische Getränke, Snacks, Fächer, Mäppchen, Anhänger etc. erworben werden.
Mittlerweile fester Bestandteil des Festivals ist der K-Pop Dance Contest in Zusammenarbeit mit „re[mark]able“, der auch 2015 ein voller Erfolg war. Der Kinosaal platzte aus allen Nähten, als Solo-, Duo- und Gruppentänzer, die jedes Jahr auf’s Neue aus ganz Deutschland anreisen, ihr Bestes zur Schau gaben. Aber auch die Sänger kamen nicht zu kurz, denn am Abend hieß es „The microphone is yours“. Dem Gewinner des Noraebang-Contests winkte ein Gutschein der Karaokebar „Melody“. Aufgrund der vielen talentierten Sängern fiel die Wahl des Gewinners umso schwieriger. Im Anschluss wurde der Tag mit einer After-Show Party abgerundet.

Despite the number four being considered an ominous number in Korea, this was definitely not the case for the fourth issue of “The Korean Film Festival”. From October 21 to October 25, a program focused on Korean movies and culture awaited guests. As in the years before, the festival took place in Frankfurt’s biggest theatre, the Cinestar Metropolis. On Wednesday evening, the festival started off with 2015’s most popular Korean movie, the impressive period drama “Assassination”, with director Choi Dong-hoon, producer Ahn Soo-hyun and actor Lee Jung-jae attending. After having successfully presented the movie, the attending cast made themselves available for a Q&A with the audience. For those unable to acquire tickets to the opening evening, “Assassination” was shown on again that following sunday. Over the course of the festival’s five days, up to six movies of various genres were shown a day. Dramas, comedies as well as thrillers were screened, making for a program suited to each guest. Fans of action and crime could enjoy Seong-hun Kim’s second feature film and break out hit “A Hard Day”. With the all-star cast of Kim Woo-bin, Lee Junho and Kang Haneul, Byung-heon Lee’s teen comedy “Twenty” attracted especially young people interested in K-Pop and K-Drama, and ended up filling every seat in the theatre. The animated movie “The Nut Job” also provided fun, light-hearted entertainment for the youngest of our guests. A movie of a special kind of nature was director Mo-young Jin’s sentimental documentary “My Love, Don’t Cross That River”, who attended the screening and subsequently answered audience questions. His charming and deeply emotional account of an aging couple facing the last moments of their marriage together brought the audience to tears.
As is the case every year, “The Korean Film Festival” also provided guests with other attractions in addition to the film program. Adults as well as children had the opportunity to try on and take pictures of themselves in a Han- bok, Korea’s traditional attire, and to write their name in Korean calligraphy as well as paint ceramics themselves and enjoy tasting the savory notes of Korean tea. A stand inspired by the Korean variety show “Running Man”, where guests could demonstrate their skills in various games, could also be found among the other booths. Alongside the various workshops and the distinct program of movies, guests could also acquire Korean drinks, snacks, pencil cases and pendants as merchandise. The K-pop dance contest in collaboration with “re[mark]able” has by now become a “Korean Film Festival” staple. Everyone showed a great reaction when the solo, duo, and group dancers that come to Germany each year showcased their talent on stage. In the evening, singers also had a chance to perform in a contest at “The Microphone is Yours”. The winner of the Noreabang-Contest won a coupon for the karaoke bar “Melody”. Choosing a winner proved especially difficult due to the surprising amount of many talented singers that entered. An aftershow party concluded the evening.
