12th Korean Film Festival Frankurt (2023)

We are pleased to welcome you between the 25th and 29th of October at our festival venues CineStar Metropolis and Eldorado. This year we will show a total of 20 feature films which offer a broad insight into the current South Korean film scene through their diversity. The films will be shown in the categories Indie Film, Blockbuster, Animation and Project K Selection. As in previous editions of our festival, the animated films of the Korean Independent Animation Filmmakers Association (KIAFA) are once again an integral part of the program.

In our everyday life, different relationships with other people play an important role. Whether family, friends, work colleagues or love relationships: we live together with other people and often these relationships require our attention. Relationships can give us strength and also challenge us in some situations.

Going to the cinema is not just about meeting people and sharing a film experience. Films can also help us to work on our relationships, because they enable a change of perspective. That’s why this year, as part of our Special Focus on “Encounters and Relationships,” we would like to invite you to think about which films you have a special connection to. For us, as the Korean film festival, it is especially exciting to get to know and better understand a part of this world through the productions from another country. Of course, we did not choose our focus by chance: this year, South Korea and Germany are celebrating 140 years of diplomatic relations. Therefore, this year we are especially looking forward to shared encounters and a lively exchange. In addition to the films, we have again prepared a varied supporting program for you.

Our supporting program will also take place under our motto „Encounters and Relationships“. We hope to deepen your encounter with Korean culture at our Hanbok booth, our craft and game booth, our calligraphy booth and our movie quiz. There will also be a K-Pop Dance Contest in cooperation with Shapgang Dance Ensemble this year.
