When the scholar Jeong Yak-jeon (SOL Kyung-gu) was banished to the island of Heuksando in 1801, he developed an interest in fishing. In exchange for his knowledge, the young fisherman Chang-dae (BYUN Yo-han) teaches Yak-jeon everything about the sea. But the two clash more and more due to their different values.

After Dongju: The Portrait of a Poet,The Book of Fish is LEE’s second black and white film.
