A Distant Place tells the story of Jin-woo (Kang Gil-woo), who peacefully raises his niece Seol-eun (KIM Si-ha) with his friend Hyun-min (HONG Kyung) on a sheep farm in Hwacheon. The peaceful time suddenly ends when Jin-woo’s twin sister, Eun-young (LEE Sang-hee), appears and wants to take her daughter with her. Since she hasn’t worried about her daughter in the last few years, Jin-woo does not want to let that happen. Spurred by anger, Eun-young reveals to Jin-woo’s neighbors his true relationship with his friend. The lives of Jin-woo and Hyun-min suddenly change. They now must deal with chaos, discrimination, and incomprehension.

Director PARK further explained: “I made this film to put a question to different stereotypes, and to break them. […] I wanted to deal with the universal aspect of love, and family” (Interview with Eye For Film).
